Two things you must tell us before we ship
The dimensions in the size selector — body diameter, overall length, flange diameter and flange thickness — are what has to fit your mold plate. Two more dimensions have to fit your machine, and they are not part of the size code:
| SR — spherical seat radius | Must match your machine's nozzle radius. Common values are SR11, SR16, SR18 and SR20. A mismatch here means the nozzle will not seat and you will get drool, flash at the interface, or a cold slug on every shot. |
| P — gate entry hole diameter | Typically 3.5 or 5 mm. It should be slightly larger than the machine nozzle bore so the sprue releases cleanly. |
Add these to your order note at checkout, or email them to sales@privleymold.com with your order number. If you are unsure, tell us your machine make and tonnage and we will look up the standard nozzle radius for it. We confirm both values back to you in writing before anything is cut.
If you order without specifying, we will contact you rather than guess — but that adds a day, so it is worth putting in the note.
Choosing body diameter and length
Overall length has to bridge the fixed clamping plate and the cavity plate, ending flush with the cavity face. Measure the plate stack rather than the old bushing if the old one was already the wrong length — a bushing standing proud leaves a raised sprue witness, and one sitting low creates a pocket where the sprue snaps off and stays behind.
Body diameter sets the sprue taper and therefore how readily the sprue pulls. Larger bodies suit thicker sections and longer runs; going larger than you need means a heavier sprue, longer cooling and more regrind. The Ø12 and Ø16 sizes cover most general work.
Flange size
The flange seats in the counterbore in the fixed plate and takes the injection load. Ø35, Ø40 and Ø50 diameters are available in 10 and 15 mm thicknesses, but not every combination exists at every body size and length — the size selector shows only what is actually available. If your counterbore needs something else, ask.
Longer bushings above 150 mm are supplied with the Ø50 × 15 flange only.
Pairs with the locating ring
The bushing and the locating ring work together: the ring centres the sprue on the platen, the bushing takes the nozzle. If you are replacing one on an older tool, check the other at the same time — a worn ring lets the nozzle sit off-centre and the bushing seat wears fast as a result. See runner and sprue components.
