t-type-angle-pin-fixing-block
T-Type Angle Pin Fixing Block

T-type angle pin fixing blocks, made to your drawing. The T-form version, where a semicircular clamp or T-slot captures the pin against a machined seat. This page is about load path — where the sideways force from the pin actually goes, and how the T-form carries it. For the retention side (stopping the pin rotating or creeping), see our DY angle pin fixing block; for the supporting seat under the pin root, see the T-type angle pin seat.

Why a T-form instead of a plain bored block

A plain block resists the pin's side load through the bolts and the friction of its own mounting face. A T-form puts a machined shoulder in the load path, so the force is carried by steel bearing against steel rather than by bolt preload. That matters as the mold ages: bolt preload relaxes, mounting faces fret, and a joint that was relying on friction starts to move. A shoulder does not relax.

The practical consequence when you specify one: the T-shoulder must be a proper fit against its pocket in the plate. A T-block sitting in an oversized pocket has all the disadvantages of a plain block plus more machining cost. Tell us the pocket dimensions and the fit you want, or send the plate drawing and we will work to it.

Clamping the pin without distorting it

The semicircular clamp has to grip the pin over its seated length, evenly. Two things to get right:

The clamp radius should match the pin diameter, with the split slightly relieved. If the two halves close solid before they grip, the pin is loose no matter how tight the bolts are. If they grip only at the split line, you crush the pin's ground surface at two points.

Bolt spacing decides how evenly the clamp closes. Two bolts far apart on a long clamp let the middle lift. Say how long the clamped length is and we will size the bolt layout with you.

Bore angle

As with any angle pin mounting, the bore angle and the pin's working angle have to be the same number. A block bored a degree off seats the pin on a line, and that line is where the pin bends. Give the angle explicitly rather than leaving us to infer it — and on a mold that has been running, measure the pin rather than trusting the original drawing.

What to send us

Block length, width and height, and the T-shoulder dimensions

Pocket dimensions in the mating plate, and the fit you want on the shoulder

Bore diameter, bore angle and clamped length

Semicircular clamp or plate geometry, split line and relief

Mounting-hole, thread and counterbore layout, and centre distances

Angle pin diameter, length and current fixing method

Assembly drawing where available; material, hardness, tolerance, quantity, destination

Documentation and confidentiality

Material certificates, hardness results and dimensional inspection reports are available, with scope and cost stated in the quotation.
